It's fortunate that this shop provides a window allowing customers in the waiting area to see what's being done to their car, and also fortunate that my vehicle was positioned such that I could see exactly what was going on, specifically what brand of oil was being put into my Mercedes SL 550. I was dismayed to see that my Benz was being filled with a low-end brand generic oil, Napa brand (Service manager told me that it's 'Valvoline Oil;' NOT TRUE, the label on the bottle says 'Distributed by Valvoline.' NOT 'made by Valvoline') It's NOT Valvoline oil, and I didn't appreciate this low-end oil going into my high-end car. Again, fortunately, since I had noticed this on my own, I brought it up with the staff, and again, after first trying to dissemble and convince me that it was in some way 'Valvoline oil' they agreed with my concern, drained the full six quarts of Napa oil, and filled my car with Liqui Moly, the top-end oil that they had used when I had my Audi A6 there for an oil change a few weeks before. I was not charged for this discarded oil. I made it very clear I did not want generic oil used in any of my vehicles, ever, and they appeared to take it to heart. Not really good that I got this issue corrected on my own initiative, and only because the positioning of my car in relation to the window allowed me to see just what was going on, and they at no point had told me that what was initially being put into my car was a low-end generic oil. Now, I'm going to answer 'yes' to the 'would you recommend this business to a friend' question below, but that's a reluctant yes, reluctant because of what I detailed above, and also, because, unfortunately, the local competition as far as independent repair shops go, is, actually, worse.
We used Valvoline Oil, made by Valvoline, distributed by Valvoline and purchased through our local NAPA store in your vehicle. We've been using this same BRAND NAME oil for years. You are welcome to speak with anyone at our local NAPA store who will confirm it is NOT a generic brand we use. However, we always want to make sure our customers get the service/products they wish, so as a courtesy we drained the Valvoline Oil, and used Liqui Moly. As you stated, we have windows to view your vehicle during service and would never intentionally use a generic brand of oil in your vehicle, especially if you requested otherwise before your appointment. The vehicle we serviced on your previous visit required different oil which is why we used the Liqui Moly. The GM went over all of this in detail with you at the time. We do appreciate that you would recommend us to others, as that says it all!
